Abstract:
The antioxidant activity of various from P. macrocarpa, fam. Thymelaeaceae, were investigated. The in vitro bioassay has been studied for screening antioxidant activity of chemical compounds from n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of mesocarp and seed from the plant. Non polar, semi polar and polar extracts are prepared of each plants part obtained, then evaluated by using spectrophoyometry methods. This methods conducted by using α, α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) as the sources of free radical and BHA (butylated hydroxyl anisole) as the positive control. The antioxidant activity of scavenging effects on α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl radical decreased in the order polar > semi polar> non polar extracts with values from 13-90% at dose of 200 µg.
